Speakers

Camila Macedo

Camila Macedo has been part of the selection and programming team at Olhar de Cinema since 2018. As a curator, she has collaborated with various festivals and film programs, including RIDM – Montreal International Documentary Festival (2022, 2024–), the Brasília Film Festival (2022, 2024), Cinefantasy (2021), and FIDÉ Brasil (2022), among others. She holds a Ph.D. and a Master’s degree in Education from UFPR, and a Bachelor’s in Film and Video from Unespar. In 2024, she curated the film program at Sesc Paço da Liberdade in Curitiba. She is currently a professor in the Film and Audiovisual program at Unespar.

Carla Italiano

Carla Italiano is a researcher and film curator. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication from UFMG and a Bachelor's degree in Film from UFSC. She is a regular member of the programming teams for Olhar de Cinema, FENDA – Experimental Festival of Filmic Arts, FestCurtasBH, and part of the organizing committee for forumdoc.bh – Documentary and Ethnographic Film Festival of Belo Horizonte. Carla has curated a range of thematic programs, including Magic Women: Reimagining the Witch in Cinema, El Camino: South American Road Film, and a retrospective of Helena Solberg, all presented at CCBB. She also co-edited the special issue "Cinema and Self-Writing" for Devires – Journal of Cinema and Humanities (UFMG). Originally from Recife, she is currently based in Belo Horizonte.

Carol Almeida

Carol Almeida is a researcher, professor, and film curator. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication from UFPE, with research focused on contemporary Brazilian cinema. Carol is a member of the curatorial teams for Olhar de Cinema/Curitiba, the Arab Women’s Film Program, and the Que Desejo Showcase, organized by Mirante Cineclube. She has served on selection committees for festivals such as Forumdoc in Belo Horizonte and For Rainbow in Fortaleza, and has been a juror at festivals including the Tiradentes Film Festival, the Brasília Festival of Brazilian Cinema, Janela de Cinema, and Animage.

Eduardo Valente

Eduardo Valente holds a degree in Film from UFF, a Master’s from USP, and a Ph.D. from UFF. He headed the international affairs department at Ancine from 2011 to 2016. He is currently the Artistic Director of the Brasília Film Festival, a member of the programming team at Olhar de Cinema – Curitiba International Film Festival, and Brazil’s delegate to the Berlin International Film Festival. He was editor of the film magazines Contracampo and Cinética. As a filmmaker, he directed the Cannes-awarded short film “Um Sol Alaranjado,” along with two other shorts (“Castanho” and “O Monstro”) and the feature film “No Meu Lugar.” Since 2018, he has worked as a consultant on editing, screenwriting, and festival distribution strategies, collaborating on over 50 feature films.

Gabriel Borges

Gabriel Borges is a filmmaker, editor, and curator from Ponta Grossa, Brazil. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in History at UFPR and holds a Master’s degree in Film and Video Arts from Unespar. His work spans film editing and directing, as well as the curation and organization of film festivals and cineclubs. Gabriel is currently the Co-Artistic Director of Olhar de Cinema – Curitiba International Film Festival, Artistic Director of Metrô – Brazilian University Film Festival, and a curator at Cineclube São Bernardo.

Giulia Maria

Giulia Maria Roberta is a Film student at Unespar in Curitiba. She is a curator, programmer, and active cineclub member, participating in the Black collective Cine Adélia and CineFAP. She also works in filmmaking, primarily as a director, screenwriter, and in art direction.

Kariny Martins

Kariny Martins is a curator, researcher, and screenwriter. She holds a Master’s degree in Film and Video Arts from the State University of Paraná and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Communication at Fluminense Federal University. Kariny serves on the curatorial committees of Olhar de Cinema – Curitiba International Film Festival and Griot – Contemporary Black Cinema Festival, and is part of the artistic team at FIANB – Brazil’s International Black Audiovisual Festival. Kariny regularly participates in festivals as a jury member, moderator, and speaker, collaborating with events such as DOCSP, the Gramado Film Festival, MIMB, FestCurtasBH, Cabíria, Rio2C, and others. She is the author of “Speculative Fiction in Black Brazilian Cinema – The Afrofuturist Aesthetic in Short Films” (A Quadro Edições, 2023) and was part of the inaugural Audience Design program at Berlinale/Rio Talents (2024).
