Synopsis

In a kind of floating house on the sunny California coast, Varda meets her uncle for the first time. And then again. And again — in a playful repetition of takes that exposes the film’s deliberate staging. In her first film made in the United States, a genealogical inquiry, a portrait of a man, the environment he inhabits, and the artistic scene that surrounds him gradually give way to a touching recognition between long-lost relatives. Jean Varda is an emigrant, an artist — he is Greek, he is great. (C.M.)

This film will be screened alongside Documenteur.
