Synopsis
An early work by Chilean filmmaker Patricio Guzmán that remained inaccessible for years, this short film was made while he was living in Spain, at the Escuela Oficial de Cinematografía in Madrid. Foreshadowing the revolutionary courage that would define his career, the film is a provocative and explosive examination of Latin America’s political landscape in the 1960s, with a particular focus on military dictatorships. Excess is its driving force – from the use of fabricated propaganda footage to its unflinching denunciation of torture and scathing critique of the intellectual elite of the time. (C.I.)
This film will be screened alongside The Scream (El Grito).
