Synopsis
As the title itself suggests, fiction and reality intertwine in what the director herself regarded as one of her favorite films. Known for her first-person essay style, Varda here shares the narration with her protagonist, Emilie, crafting a clever mirror play between filmmaker, character, and the filmed spaces. A Frenchwoman newly arrived in L.A., Emilie is trying to rebuild her life with her young son (played by Varda’s own child). As she processes her losses and adjusts to a new beginning, she leads us through the human and geographic landscapes of a foreign land. (C.M.)
This film will be screened alongside Uncle Yanco.
