In November 2021, twenty-six relics from the former Kingdom of Dahomey were repatriated from France to the Republic of Benin. These artifacts, like thousands of others, were looted during the French military campaign of 1892 and kept in French institutions for over a century. But how does a country come to terms with the return of ancestral objects after having been forced to define itself in their absence? At the University of Abomey-Calavi, students explore the political and cultural stakes of their return, sparking discussions on memory, historical reparation, and national identity. (C.I.)
