Synopsis

In the early stages of their romance, Mari and Ana decide to visit Ilha do Mel together, hoping to create shared memories. Upon arriving, the two women, both deaf, search for a guide who understands sign language and are unexpectedly introduced to Lambe-Lambe. As they explore the island’s sights, the three of them come to realize that every love story is worth living. (K.M.)

This film is a part of PGM 5 and will be screened alongside “Sand”, “He loves me, he loves me not” and “Dance of the Fireflies”.

“Between Signs and Tides” is the second collaboration between João Gabriel Ferreira and João Gabriel Kowalski. The duo’s first short film, “Silêncio Bruto”, premiered at Curta Kinoforum and won the Audience Award at the Kinoarte Festival. João Gabriel Ferreira is deaf and works in the audiovisual industry as a sign language interpreter. He also served as a consultant for the series “Crisálida”. João Gabriel Kowalski is a director, producer, and screenwriter at Beleza Maravilha Filmes, a production company based in Maringá.
