Synopsis
Quarup is a ritual performed to honor the dead. The Sete Quedas waterfalls were once the largest in the world by water volume. In 1982, the violent process of flooding the waterfalls and the lands of the region’s traditional communities culminated in the inauguration of the Itaipu Dam reservoir. In this short film, filmmaker Frederico Füllgraf captures the final days of this natural wonder in Paraná, accompanied by the verses of Carlos Drummond de Andrade (written in response to the destruction of the waterfalls) and the Avá-Guarani Quarup ritual. This film will be screened alongside Homeless.
